On Wednesday, October
30th, 2024, the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees at Yankee
Stadium in New York City to win the 120th World Series four games to one. It
was the eighth championship for the Dodgers franchise, and the 33rd that was won in New York. These are the top five
players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #50 Mookie Betts
(Dodgers)- RF
Betts captured
co-player of the game honors in game five, adding two RBIs with a run, a hit
and a walk as the Dodgers picked up the series-clinching 7-6 victory.
4. #11 Anthony
Volpe (Yankees)- SS
Volpe was game
four’s player of the game, as he collected four RBIs, three runs, two hits and a
walk as the Yankees went on to win 11-4 for their lone win of the series.
3. #18 Yoshinobu
Yamamoto (Dodgers)- P
Yamamoto earned
player of the game honors for game two, going six and a third innings while
allowing just one run, one hit and a pair of walks as the Dodgers scored the
4-2 victory.
2. #21 Walker
Buehler (Dodgers)- P
Buehler nailed down
player of the game in game three, pitching five shutout innings as he gave up
just two hits and two walks in the Dodgers’ 4-2 triumph to go up three games to
none in the series.
1. #5 Freddie
Freeman (Dodgers)- 1B
Game one’s player
of the game swatted four RBIs, two hits and scored a run as Freeman hit the game-winning
grand slam in the Dodgers’ 6-3 victory in 10 innings. Freeman also split player
of the game honors in game five, contributing two RBIs along with a run, hit
and walk to complete the World Series title for Los Angeles.
