2006 Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament Recap

On Sunday, February 26th, 2006, Sweden defeated Finland 3-2 in the gold medal game to win the 21st gold medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey history. It was the second gold medal for Sweden in Olympic men’s ice hockey. Finland took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their second silver medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey. The Czech Republic defeated Russia 3-0 in the bronze medal game, claiming their first bronze medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey.

The tournament was held in Italy, with Turin as the host city. Olli Jokinen and Teemu Selanne of Finland scored the most goals during the tournament with six. Antero Niittymaki of Finland led goaltenders in save percentage at .951.
