2002 Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament Recap

On Sunday, February 24th, 2002, Canada defeated the United States 5-2 in the gold medal game to win the 20th gold medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey history. It was the seventh gold medal for Canada in Olympic men’s ice hockey, and the first gold since 1952. The United States took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their seventh silver medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey. Russia defeated Belarus 7-2 in the bronze medal game, claiming their first bronze medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey.

The tournament was held in the United States, with Salt Lake City as the host city. John LeClair of the United States scored the most goals during the tournament with six. Martin Gerber of Switzerland led goaltenders in save percentage at .958.
