On Tuesday, September 26th, 2000, the United States
defeated Japan 2-1 in eight innings to win the second gold medal in Olympic
baseball history. It was the second gold medal for the United States in Olympic
baseball. Japan earned the silver medal, as Australia took bronze after losing
to the United States 1-0. The tournament was held in Australia, with Sydney as
the host city.
