On Monday, August 23rd, 2004, the United States
defeated Australia 5-1 to win the third gold medal in Olympic softball history.
It was the third gold medal for the United States in Olympic softball.
Australia earned the silver medal, as Japan took bronze after losing to Australia
3-0. The tournament was held in Greece, with Athens as the host city.
