On Saturday, October 26th, 1968, Pakistan defeated Australia
2-1 in the gold medal game to win the 11th gold medal in Olympic men’s field
hockey history. It was the second gold medal for Pakistan in Olympic men’s
field hockey. Australia took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their first
silver medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. India
defeated West Germany 2-1 in the bronze medal game, grabbing their first bronze
medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history.
The tournament was held in Mexico, with Mexico City as
the host city. Abdul Rashid of Pakistan, Brian Glencross of Australia and
Prithipal Singh of India all tied in goals scored during the tournament with
seven apiece.
