On Friday, October 23rd, 1964, India defeated Pakistan
in the gold medal game to win the 10th gold medal in Olympic men’s field hockey
history. It was the seventh gold medal for India in Olympic men’s field hockey.
Pakistan took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their second silver
medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. Australia
defeated Spain 3-2 in overtime in the bronze medal game, grabbing their first
bronze medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history.
The tournament was held in Japan, with Tokyo as the
host city. Prithipal Singh of India led the tournament in goals scored with 10.
