As of the 2021 racing season, there have been a total
of 149 drivers in the Cup Series with their hometown listed in Pennsylvania. So
far, drivers representing the Keystone State have taken nine wins, 76 top-fives
and 264 top-10s in 1,965 starts.
Currently, Pennsylvania is represented in the Cup
Series by Garrett Smithley, who made his Cup debut in 2018.
5. Mark Donohue (Active 1972-73)
Donohue, winner of the 1972 Indy 500, picked up one
win, one top-five and one top-10 in the Cup Series. Despite getting lackluster
results in five of his six starts, Donohue scored the victory in the
season-opening race in 1973 at Riverside International Raceway. In 1990,
Donohue was inducted to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.
4. Mario Andretti (Active 1966-69)
Andretti took one win, one top-five and three top-10s
in 14 starts, as he claimed the win in the 1967 Daytona 500. However, like
Donohue, Andretti is also well-known for accomplishments in other forms of
motorsport with his win in the 1969 Indy 500 and the 1978 Formula One
championship, along with a class victory in the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Andretti joined the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame in 1986, as well
as the IMHF in 2001.
3. John Andretti (Active 1993-2010)
Andretti scored a pair of victories with 13 top-fives
and 37 top-10s in 393 starts, getting his best points finish of 11th during the
1998 season.
2. Jimmy Spencer (Active 1989-2006)
Spencer earned two wins, 28 top-fives and 80 top-10s
in 478 races. Despite both of his wins coming in 1994, Spencer’s best points
finish was actually in 1993, where he finished 12th in points.
1. Dick Linder (Active 1949-56)
Linder picked up three wins, six top-fives and 11
top-10s in 28 starts, taking a top-10 points finish in 1950 as he grabbed the
eighth spot, so far the only Pennsylvanian to do so.
