Top 4 NASCAR Cup Series Drivers From Rhode Island

As of the 2021 racing season, there have been a total of four drivers in the Cup Series with their hometown listed in Rhode Island. So far, drivers representing the Ocean State have taken one top-10 in 11 starts.

4. Joe Skovron (Active 1951)

Skovron made one start during the 1951 season, picking up a 36th-place finish at Thompson Speedway following a crash early on in the event.

3. Rusty Rushton (Active 1951)

Rushton started a pair of races during the 1951 season, taking a finish of 26th in his Cup Series debut at Langhorne Speedway and a 19th at Thompson in his final Cup start.

2. Tom Gifford (Active 1951-52)

Gifford made four starts at the Cup level, getting a best finish of 22nd at Palm Beach Speedway in 1952.

1. Sammy Packard (Active 1951-62)

Packard is the only Rhode Islander so far to score a top-10 finish, as he claimed the ninth spot at Norwood Arena in his only Cup start in 1961 despite finishing 56 laps down.
