On Sunday, February 27th, 1994, Sweden defeated Canada
3-2 in a shootout in the gold medal game to win the 18th gold medal in Olympic
men’s ice hockey history. It was the first gold medal for Sweden in Olympic
men’s ice hockey. Canada took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their fourth
silver medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey. Finland
defeated Russia 4-0 in the bronze medal game, claiming their first bronze medal
in Olympic men’s ice hockey.
The tournament was held in Norway, with Lillehammer as
the host city. Miroslav Satan of Slovakia scored the most goals during the
tournament with nine. Jarmo Myllys of Finland led goaltenders in save
percentage at .966.
