On Saturday, October 1st, 1988, Great Britain defeated
West Germany 3-1 in the gold medal game to win the 16th gold medal in Olympic
men’s field hockey history. It was the second gold medal for Great Britain in
Olympic men’s field hockey. West Germany took the silver medal with the loss,
claiming their third silver medal in Olympic men’s field
hockey. The Netherlands defeated Australia 2-1 in the bronze medal game,
grabbing their third bronze medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history.
The tournament was held in South Korea, with Seoul as
the host city. Floris Jan Bovelander of the Netherlands scored the most goals
during the tournament with nine.
