On Saturday, August 11th, 1984, Pakistan defeated West
Germany 2-1 in overtime in the gold medal game to win the 15th gold medal in
Olympic men’s field hockey history. It was the third gold medal for Pakistan in
Olympic men’s field hockey. West Germany took the silver medal with the loss,
claiming their second silver medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. Great Britain
defeated Australia 3-2 in the bronze medal game, grabbing their second bronze
medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history.
The tournament was held in the United States, with Los
Angeles as the host city. Hassan Sardar of Pakistan scored the most goals
during the tournament with 10.
