On Sunday, February 19th, 1984, the Soviet Union
defeated Czechoslovakia by two points in the final standings to win the 15th
gold medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey history. It was the sixth gold medal for
the Soviet Union in Olympic men’s ice hockey. Czechoslovakia took the silver
medal with four points in the standings, claiming their fourth silver medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey. Sweden defeated Canada by two
point in the standings, grabbing their third bronze medal in Olympic men’s ice
hockey.
The tournament was held in Yugoslavia, with Sarajevo
as the host city. Nikolay Drozdetsky of the Soviet Union scored the most goals
during the tournament with 10. Vladislav Tretyak of the Soviet Union led
goaltenders in save percentage at .966.
