On Sunday, February 16th, 1936, Great Britain defeated
Canada by one point in the standings to win the fifth gold medal in Olympic
men’s ice hockey history. It was the first (and, as of this writing, only) gold
medal for Great Britain in Olympic men’s ice hockey, as well as becoming the
first team other than Canada to take home the gold. Canada took the silver
medal with four points in the standings, claiming their first silver medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey. The United States defeated Czechoslovakia
by three points in the standings to take the bronze medal, grabbing their first
bronze medal in Olympic men’s ice hockey. The tournament was held in Germany,
with Garmisch-Partenkirchen as the host city.
Hugh Farquharson of Canada scored the most goals
during the tournament with 11.
