On Thursday, August 11th, 1932, India defeated Japan by
one point in the standings to win the fourth gold medal in Olympic men’s field
hockey history. It was the second gold medal for India in Olympic men’s field
hockey. Japan took the silver medal with one point in the standings, claiming
their first silver medal in Olympic men’s field hockey.
The United States grabbed their first bronze medal in Olympic men’s field
hockey as the third and final team entered into the tournament. The event was
significantly affected by the Great Depression, leading to only three teams competing
as a result of travel costs.
The tournament was held in the United States, with Los
Angeles as the host city. Roop Singh of India led the tournament in goals
scored with 13.
