On Tuesday, July 27th, 2021, Japan defeated the United
States 2-0 to win the fifth gold medal in Olympic softball history. It was the second
gold medal for Japan in Olympic softball. The United States earned the silver
medal with the loss, as Canada took the bronze after defeating Mexico 3-2 in
the bronze medal match. The tournament was held in Japan, with Tokyo as the
host city.
