On Thursday, February 25th, 2010, Canada defeated the
United States 2-0 in the gold medal game to win the fourth gold medal in
Olympic women’s ice hockey history. It was the third gold medal for the Canada
in Olympic women’s ice hockey, as the United States took their second silver
medal in Olympic women’s ice hockey with the loss. Finland
claimed their second bronze medal in Olympic women’s ice hockey with their 3-2
victory in overtime over Sweden in the bronze medal game. The tournament was
held in Canada, with Vancouver as the host city.
Meghan Agosta of Canada and Stefanie Marty of
Switzerland tied for the most goals scored during the tournament with nine,
while Shannon Szabados of Canada led goaltenders in save percentage at .980.
