On Saturday, September 30th, 2000, the Netherlands defeated
South Korea 3-3, after winning the shootout round 5-4, in the gold medal game to
win the 19th gold medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history. It was the second
gold medal for the Netherlands in Olympic men’s field hockey. South Korea took
the silver medal with the loss, claiming their first silver medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. Australia defeated Pakistan
6-3 in the bronze medal game, grabbing their third bronze medal in Olympic
men’s field hockey history.
The tournament was held in Australia, with Sydney as
the host city. Jorge Lombi of Argentina scored the most goals during the
tournament with 13.
