On Thursday, August 12th, 1948, India defeated Great
Britain 4-0 in the gold medal game to win the sixth gold medal in Olympic men’s
field hockey history. It was the fourth gold medal for India in Olympic men’s
field hockey. Great Britain took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their
first silver medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. The
Netherlands and Pakistan initially tied 1-1 in the bronze medal game, however the
Netherlands defeated Pakistan 4-1 in the second bronze medal game, grabbing
their second bronze medal in Olympic men’s field hockey.
The tournament was held in the United Kingdom, with London
as the host city. Norman Borrett and Great Britain and Ali Dara of Pakistan led
the tournament in goals scored with 10 each.
